Music is like playing the piano. First you must learn to play by the rules, then you must forget the rules and play from your heart.
I first met Don in Rouyn at a legion hall where the Be Bops played on Saturday night teen dances. He came in with Rene Hamelin to check us out. We were the new band in town and the word was out.
Don and Rene decide right there and then that that's what they wanted to do. They both went out and bought brand new equipment and started to practice.I remember going to the old Frontenac hotel basement and watching them practice. Bill and Jimmy would give them some tips on how to play.
Latter when the Be Bops broke up I went back to North Bay and soon got a call from Kenny that Don Seward was leaving the band, and wanted me to join them in the Flaming Stars. Well I must say that that phone call changed my whole life.
Don was the leader of the Flaming Stars and the Jades. A great leader I must add. He made all the right moves in the bizz for that time. We went on for 10 years together the same four guys. Quite an accomplishment for any band.
Don was a gentle and caring man. He would have given you the shirt of his back.I personally have nothing but great memories of our time together.
All I have to say is see you soon enough Don for our Jades Reunion in the Universe. You will be missed by all of us. R I P.
